  • Description: Dimitris, a thirty-year old petit bourgeois, weak-spirited and with no special ambitions in life, is ready to grab the first opportunity that comes along and settle down in a peaceful life. He hovers between yesterday – the nightmare of the German occupation and his first love with a neighbor – and the unstable reality of today. He meets a rich woman of his age, Thaleia, who frequents the same night club as he does, but the everyday routine doesn’t change. Soon, however, he is confronted with a different reality, as the small business in Drapetsona where he has worked the last eight years closes down. He now meets Maria, a teacher full of dreams, who is trying to teach at a night school. His relationship with her makes him see things from a different angle, slowly leading him to a kind of awakening, and the realization that the social-political situation has to change. Thus, he rolls up his sleeves, gathers his belongings, abandons his own social environment and goes to live with Maria – and anything else that this decision entails. The film is driven by a spirit of independence and reaction against the standards of the time. It reflects the virtue and possibility of cinema – that of changing society through the medium itself.
